Peter Sharp Stakes Out Pro-Business, Pro-Resident, Turf in Campaign for Kamloops City Council

MEDIA RELEASE:  October 3rd

Former Kamloops City councilor Peter Sharp ended week number one, of the campaign to win a seat on council, with a commitment to support employment opportunities for city residents, promoting a healthy environment for business growth, and a return to regular Neighborhood Town Hall meeting for public consultations and input

“First let me say that my intention is to play a role on city council that will stand up for, and respect, the needs of both city residents and the business of community of Kamloops”, stated Sharp. “I firmly believe this is a priority for all who seek a seat at the council table.”

In keeping with this Sharp indicated, that when elected to council, he will seek the co-operation of fellow councilors to ensure there be a zero-based, bottom-up, budget at least once every five years.

Said Sharp, “Zero based budgeting will mean every department, for the City of Kamloops, will start budget planning with zero dollars, and then establish their budget requirements from there. With a zero based budget, both residents and businesses, will know their tax dollars are generating the most impact in providing the services we need.”

“In my run to seek a seat in the BC Legislature last year, one thing I heard loud and clear from area residents was the need for the on-going engagement of voters; but it also needed to be something that didn’t just happen at election time.”

Sharp continued, “City Council need to do more to engage the business community and residence of our city by holding regular Town Hall Meetings, with business or community and neighborhood associations, for public consultation. This was a regular occurrence during Mel Rothenburger’s tenure as Mayor of Kamloops, and it is one that should be initiated again”.

In the coming weeks leading up to the election for Kamloops city council, Peter Sharp will be making himself available to anyone that wishes to share a concern, ask a question, or who wishes to find out where he stands on issues important to you.

Sharp concluded by saying, “The voters of Kamloops, whom I wish to represent, regardless of whether they choose to vote for me or not, deserve nothing less.”
